Stepan hosts students for STEM career encouragement

Continuing Stepan’s longstanding relationship with Teach for America and Chicago International Charter School (CICS) Northtown Academy, 19 high school students and two teachers visited Stepan’s Global Technology Center (GTC) last month. This was the first resumed visit since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

During their tour of the GTC, students viewed demonstrations of each department, including how we:

  • Formulate hand soap for Personal Care
  • Analyze beverages by mass spectrometry with Analytical
  • Make rigid polyol foam with Polymers
  • Learn about fermentation and streak culture plates with Bioproducts and Biosolutions

By showcasing options for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers and lab demonstrations, Stepan strives to encourage students to follow their STEM interests in the future. The Stepan Values of People First and Growth, Innovation & Sustainability are exemplified by empowering the students to make a difference and showing their ability to shape the future through curiosity. We look forward to continued involvement with Teach for America and CICS Northtown Academy and expect Stepan scientist volunteers to visit Northtown Academy this fall for more STEM demonstrations.
